AEW reveals full details of NJPW’s role in the World Title Elimination Series

AEW Rampage last night carried some disappointing news, as CM Punk revealed that he was injured and needed surgery. The injury will keep him out of action for a while but after some initial confusion, Punk was said to not be leaving the AEW World Championship. Instead, a temporary champion will be crowned with the Eliminator Series, and they’ll face Punk when he’s able to return to unite those titles. AEW has now released more details about the multi-stage Eliminator series, which will also include the Dominion event from New Japan Pro-Wrestling and stars like Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hirooki Goto.

Battle Royal will take place next Wednesday, and the winner will move on to compete in the main event. It will happen later in the night against Jon Moxley, and whoever wins will qualify to compete in the AEW World Title match at Forbidden Door. There will also be an NJPW Dominion elimination match between Tanahashi and Goto, and whoever wins that will advance to the Forbidden Role Match as well. Then whoever wins that match will be crowned the new Interim World Champion in AEW. You can find all the official details below.

Featuring an exciting multi-stage Eliminator Series: Battle Royal featuring many of AEW’s top competitors, the AEW Dynamite stream will open live on Wednesday, June 8, from Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, MO, with the winner progressing to compete in the main event.

That same night, Battle Royale winner will meet former AEW World Champion and #1 seed Jon Moxley in an elimination match in the main event of Dynamite, as the winner advances to compete for the Interim AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door in June. 26, live from the all-sold-out United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Meanwhile, on June 12, at the Dominion New Japan Pro-Wrestling (“NJPW”) event from historic Osaka Jo Hall, highly decorated NJPW stars and longtime rivals Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hiroki Goto will face off in a elimination match for the championship. AEW’s Interim World Championship, with the winner also progressing to Forbidden Door on June 26, live on pay-per-view.

The winner of AEW’s elimination match on June 8 will face the winner of the June 12 NJPW match with NJPW’s Goto Eliminator in the Forbidden Door main event on June 26, to be crowned the interim AEW world champion.

After AEW World Champion CM Punk obtains medical clearance to compete, the AEW Interim World Championship winner will face Siam Punk in the AEW World Championship Unification Match. “
